Into India: Part 1

The beaches in Goa are straight out of a dream! Lots of dogs and boats roam the beaches, it's rather peaceful despite the local flavor. I loved the white sands (sans driftwood), as well as the way the sun filtered through the clouds... it was divine. I spent my time collecting little shells and admiring the almost-empty beach! Goa's quickly turning into a tourist location, but I really hope these beaches stay intact. The pictures aren't even close to capturing the beauty of it all.

PS: A couple of changes to the blog! I made it wider to allow larger photos, and overall tried to open it up with simpler fonts and colors. I like it!

Please Stand By

Once again, this semester has managed to fly by. I finished yet another show with LCC Theatre Co., this time acting as an illusion of a tiny 8 year old girl. It wasn't too far of a leap, considering I have really young features anyway! Good to know that in the future I'll age gracefully. Anywho, this time around, my flyer design got chosen! Here it is:
I will never tire of design. It's definitely my passion, and all that I've ever known to be my passion. It feels really natural, and so I'm honored to have had my creation chosen. I also helped design the programs, but there are so many pages in that, that I highly doubt you'd want to see 'em.

The idea of "Please Stand By" was to create a show where the audience feels like they're watching TV. We filmed "commercials" which were basically short sketches, and played them in between each scene, along with static! You can see these commercials online by clicking here. I'm only in one, but the others are really funny, so you should watch them!
It was really interesting to go from playing an old lady last quarter to the exact opposite this time! I'm so glad the quarter's over, though. I could do with a week of vacation! I'll be staying for a couple of days to be with friends, and then taking a flight back home.

Do you have any plans for spring break?

Location, Location, Location!

Hello hello everyone! Since I've been all over the place as of late, I thought I'd pop back in to show a couple of pictures of places I've been to recently! I had to visit these sites to write an essay on the preservation of art, but each of these sculptures were in places I've wanted to go to for a while. It made for a really fun day!

There's a tiny Native American woman on the top. Also, when the light hits the water, it creates a rainbow!
La Brea Tar Pits. Did you know that they're still excavating fossils from there?  They found an entire mammoth skeleton in 2009. Crazy!
I wish this picture wasn't so overexposed, I love the fish eye illusion!
I'm still learning how to use my camera (Fugifilm Finepix S3380), so a lot of pictures are still not quite how I want them to be, but it's a great transition camera for people who want a DSLR! I highly recommend it. I've been trying to get into the habit of taking it with me wherever I go so that I can always capture the moment, and it's pretty light, so it's not hard to bring it everywhere! More to come later. :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Once again, my friends and I are planning a party this weekend-- this time, for Valentine's Day! Any excuse to celebrate the end of midterms is fine by me. To prepare for the party, we decided to make goodie bags. My contribution was teeny crocheted hearts.

Aren't they adorable? I wish I had time to photoshop them a bit, but alas, it is four in the morning and I have yet to finish a 7 page paper as well as study for my Italian midterm tomorrow. Sigh!

For those of you who want to make your own cute little hearts, use this tutorial! It's super simple compared to other heart tutorials I've seen out there-- I made one every 6 minutes, and I'm a slow crocheter! The only difference between what I did and what they did was that I used embroidery thread so that the hearts would turn out super tiny compared to the original version! Love the pastel colors, and I can't wait for everyone to see 'em!

Sorry for being MIA, but it looks like school's going to be my first priority, so I'm going to be posting whenever I can, but expect to hear from me sporadically!

An Extremely Late Halloween

I don't quite want to post photos from the ridiculously amazing show my theater company just had because I feel like it would be overkill, but I do want to catch up with posting a lot of pictures that have been floating around on my desktop with no purpose. This set is from around Halloween.

My friends Yalda and Ivy are my two other "Marketeers", or Marketing Directors in the group, so we caught dinner. (As for the picture, there's only so much you can do to light up a dimly lit photo... my apologies). After that, we headed to the nearest Halloween store to play around with the crazy things you can find there.

She had been happy to take a photo...
Until she saw the creepy clown in the background.

Real or fake, rats have never scared me.

Ladies and gents, I present to you my future as a cat lady.

Marketeers fo' lyfe. Or rather till the end of the year. Haha!

So many more pictures to post... but I'm going to try to keep it organized, so I'll end here. Overall it was a great date with good friends! There's nothing better.

My Memories Suite Scrapbook Software: A Review

Hello everyone! Liz Gardner recently contacted me about doing a review for My Memories Suite Scrapbook Software as a recent promotion they've been working on (as I'm sure you've seen around the blogosphere already). I decided to give it a shot after being quite skeptical at first. Some of my favorite bloggers (Elsie, Silje, etc) have been avid scrapbookers, and I've admired their pretty projects for years. However, I've always been one to think of scrapbooking as an "elite" thing... as in, every time I go to a crafts store, I stare in wonder and amazement at the rows of pretty papers and decoration until I see the price tag and snap back to reality. So I was really excited when I heard about this, because I've always wanted to be a scrapbooker, and making templates digitally is a really smart way to do so while saving money! The transaction was really simple too, since they offer it as an instant download link instead of having it shipped to you.

Here are the results of my completely amateur scrapbooking skills... (PS. This is a great way to kill time when you're bored but still wanting to let your creative juices flow!) Don't laugh! It's my first time!

To warm up, I tried using a pre-existing template. This is good for people who don't have a lot of time on their hands. I found it difficult to resize the layer so it wouldn't get cropped, but really enjoyed the layouts that were offered (they weren't too tacky or anything).

Overall time: 30 minutes. I really found it easy to place pictures, it kind of reminds me of Powerpoint. The embellishment don't look overdone and comes in a good range of colors! I wish we could pick our own colors from a palette, but that's hardly anything to complain about, considering all of the options available. I also saw that it has an option for adding audio, transitions, and video, which is such a great touch and really shows what advancements digital scrapbooking has made!

Now, time for some scrapbooking from scratch... how daunting! However, it ended up being pretty easy; they provided photo layout ideas and I got to do all of the rest.
Overall time: 15 minutes. It turned out looking a lot worse than I had imagined, but that's because I went embellishment-happy on it. I loved how fast it was to throw together though! Definitely a good idea for anyone who is on the go and wants a simple way to scrapbook. I was able to add a link to my store in the upper corner, on the logo, so I can see how it would be useful for creating a portfolio. I also think it would make for amazing favors if you and your husband/bride-to-be make an album filled with pictures (and video and sound, which you can add using this software!) to give to family and friends after the wedding. It would make for such a creative and personal touch!

Anyway, long story short, I really enjoyed the My Memories Suite Scrapbook Software, or I wouldn't have agreed to reviewing it. It's a fun creative outlet for beginners who don't know where to start in the intimidating scrapbooking world. I've been honest in my opinions and this is all just from me poking about and playing with the software.

If you'd like to find out more about this software, you can check them out on all the usual social sites:
Facebook (They're having a lot of promos on their site right now like free software giveaways and competitions!)

If you've looked into it and are interested in getting one for yourself, click here. You can also get it for $10 dollars off plus $10 store credit if you use this code: STMMMS74375.

I only wanted to do a review this time around instead of pairing it with a giveaway, since this is a meaty post. Expect a giveaway by the end of November, though, as a last opportunity if you missed winning some of the software from other bloggers!

Cramped Living Quarters

The full view
My favorite painting by Van Gogh, "Cafe Terrace at Night" and an L-shaped paperclip.
Gala Darling's self-love manifesto. Told you I printed it out! I changed the color to match everything else, though.
Go check out this artist's site at Arcane-Arts.com!
And lastly, my own scallops. I'm planning on making more for the shop, but I had to have them for myself too! Mine's a brighter mint green than the pictures show.

And there you have it. I'm living here full-time so my desk is pretty darn messy from all the things I have, but you can see a few snippets of my personality here and there!

On the Road Again

I have so many pictures to share with you all that I decided to just show a couple at a time so that it's not a total photo overload!

I wasn't going to post any of these because they're all blurry towards the bottom (and to me they're really boring), but I figured that those of you who don't live in CA will probably enjoy these hills. I almost forget that they're not found in most other states, because I'm just so used to them! So far I haven't had anything to do since I brought the wrong yarn to college to work with. Sad! School's starting in a couple of days though, so I guess I should revel in this downtime.

Bzzy! // Antiques

I will be in a meeting from 1 to 6 PM today, so I can't talk much since I'm reviewing notes right now. It's with my theatre group, who I haven't seen in ages, but I shall be looking at all of their faces through Skype instead of in person. So excited to start planning things. In the meantime, here are some photos from my travels to an antique faire I went to a couple of weeks ago!

Stylin'
The flowers were so pretty.
And these giant sunflowers were too! I want to grow some one day.
It's crunch time, packing-wise, so I'm going to be pretty swamped this week. I'll still try to keep posting though! Hope your week goes swell.

At the Airport

Last week, my sister and her boyfriend officially moved. We sent them off at the airport, and on the way there I took the opportunity to try out my camera's night setting. It's not terrible considering I was in a moving car, but... I'm not pleased. Here are some of the results:

(Slapped a filter on this one.)

However, I have some good news! I'm planning on buying a new camera. I have a point-and-shoot right now, but I want to get a DSLR, one that's good enough to take closeups and portraits. Any suggestions on good models?

Around the house

A short picture post since I woke up late today after the HP movie premiere last night. The movie was really good, by the way! If you want to see a movie that finally sticks to the book, this is it.

The solar lights around my house are really pretty, and they glow in different colors at night!

I'm heading out soon with a couple of friends now! No idea where we're going, but it's sure to be fun.
